WebFeb 24, 2008 · I am extremely happy to say that the Crate VC20 is heavily considered to be one of the best I have ever played through. Its an overall bargain, versatile, tube amp. WebMar 22, 2024 · Some mods I make to all Vintage Club Crates (unless the owner prefers nails-on-chalkboard highs) is to remove brightening cap across the volume control, or "peaking" cap as on the VC20, that's C3. With the hi end tamed a bit, it brings out the mids and lows with little further effort. I'd be careful not to overdo C1 value. WebIf the Vintage Club series had been Crate's first offering to the musical world, they would have a much different (far better) reputation today. They do go through EL84s like a Vox so you might want to budget for annual or semi-annual power tube repacement if you pull the trigger on this trade.

Amps are prone to potential problems with the switch on the top panel that changes from clean to overdrive but mine was repaired prior to getting it and I use a footpedal to change the channels.
